Low Compression on #2

My 72' TE has been running a little bit rougher as of late so I decided to do a little inspection. I pulled each plug and they all looked great. Decided to do compression test and they were all great except #2 was down 30lbs. from the rest. Visual inspection showed a little oil leaking between the cylinder and the crankcase. My first suspicion was a pulled head stud. Checked the with a torque wrench and all four nuts were holding 25lbs.
I guess my next step is to get an air compressor and hook it into the spark plug hole and listen for leaks in the intake and exhaust.
By the way I regapped the plugs when I out them back in and it runs great. But 30lbs. is way to much of a difference in compression figures.
Stats:
2.4 T rebuilt as a 2.4E MFI
Any guesses?

If the plug looks great (not oil fouled) I would look at the valves to see if they are seating correctly or partially open.

Try this trick: spray a little oil down the sparkplug hole and try your test again. Sometimes if you do this the "Bad" rings will seal better and your numbers will increase. If they do not increase then I would go right to the valves.

My guess is that it sounds like a valve not seating properly... Too tight, Junk on the seat...etc.

good luck

The plugs had no fouling I'll try the oil trick. Let you know what happens.
