Rear suspension woes

Help!! My rear suspension has became harsh and loose feeling... how much play should there be in Bananna arm bushings? when I have spring plate and shock disconnect I can move it sideway about 3/4 inch each direction sideways? now the fun part...previous owner? Mechanic? had put the bolts in with heads TOWARDS the Trans.....so no way to remove bolt without taking transaxle out?? the spring bushes show some wear but worn thru?? Help!!!!!

The question is how much play is there WITH the spring plate connected? I have never seen the bushings go bad on the banana arms but the spring plate bushings are almost always worn out on older cars. With the car sitting on the ground , how close is the torsion bar to the center of the spring plate cover? On some cars the bushings are so bad that they are rubbing on the covers. These bushings are now replaceable separately. The company is called neatrix. You have to torch off the old bushings or cut and scrape them off the spring plates because they are bonded to them. But you might have your alignment checked in thr rear. 911's require toe in and negative camber in the rear. Without this they feel very loose in the rear. Also if you use a tire with too soft of sidewall in the rear your asking for trouble. Don't put anything below v-rated rubber in the rear or your tail will wag the dog. What kind of tires are you using? I'd be curious to know brand, size and speed rating. On a side note, check your motor and trans mounts. I had bad ones and they made the car rear steer (torque steer) with throttle or decel. That one didn't make sense to me but it went away with new mounts.

thanks for the reply, Ok first off I did have it aligned and rear tyres are Pirelli's ZR rated Supersports,
I cant find any play with the spring plates connected, only noticed the play when I took the spring plates off to check the bushings. They showed some wear were worn off centred with about a 1/8th indentation on one side I will replace them with the Neatrix bushes and see if that makes nay difference and keep you posted, Bob

Weltmeister has polyurethane bushings for the banana arms available in a "street" hardness-harder than rubber, but softer than normal poly bushings-give those a try. To remove the bolts without dropping the transaxle, remove the nuts, slide the bolt toward the trans as far as you can, then use a Dremel or cut-off tool to cut the head off the bolt-then you can slide it out the other side and replace it-use stock Porsche or at least a Grade 8 aftermaket equivalent.
