Winshield washer and new winshield

I would like to replace my winshield and gasket as I get leaks in the corners when it rains. The new winshield would also eliminate the millions of tiny sparkles from stone chips over eighteen years.

I am delaying replacing the glass until I sort out my winshield squirters. When I activate the switch there is a three Mississippi delay until the fluid hits the glass. The fluid obviously is being pulled from the resevoir each time, and is not staying in the line.

Does anyone know what defective contraption keeps the fluid from returning to the tank?

I believe the connectors along the pipework should be of the non-returnable variety (one-way valve) therefore allowing no fluid back to the tank.
