muffler question with pics

I just removed the muffler from my 72 911T in preparation of installing Carrera chain tensioners. While I'm in there (magic words), I figured it could use a repaint in grey but I noticed some small cracks around some of the welds. Do these need to be rewelded? Recommendations?

Those all do that. it is a double layer of steel ther and the outer shell is ss and it cracks out over time. you can reweld it but it won't last forever

I have always wondered if you can just use JB Weld Epoxy Putty (or similar) instead of welding and then repaint after it has dried. Has anyone tried something like this? I figure the crack Coldstart has does not really weaken the integrity of the muffler, so the Putty would just seal the crack. Yes/No?

The weld is still extremely strong-- you can pick up the muffler by the inlets with no fear of them breaking off. So just paint and go as the welds are solid on the inner layer?

I used JB Weld on those cracks on my 73. I did not go so far as to sand, paint, and refinish, but the epoxy has held for the last 9 years with no further deterioration.

Thanks Bill. JB weld sounds like a good route.
