exhaust flange/long and short of it
Has anyone ever ground down a set of exhaust from an SC to the flange height of the carrera exhaust. I have a set of thin flanged headers off an earlier car (pre 74) that I would like to be able to swap back and forth between the stock exhaust on my SC and the headers for the track. I already have the shorter studs on the exhaust port in the heads and the way I see it, it doesn't take much to swap back and forth with the exception of changing the studs.
The exhaust , oil line, cat muffler, etc., is only a couple of hours easy work if the flanges are the same height. The studs that are in my cars heads are cut downs from removing the old exhaust and I am afraid if I try and remove them I am going to open up a huge can of time and money to drill them out etc. I know all the tricks for removing them but was wondering if anyone has ground down their exhaust flanges to thin height or cut and welded on later flanges to stock SC system so you don't have to change the exhaust port studs thanks Steve

I used 1/2" spacers to mount an early thin-flanged exhaust to a 3.0 with long studs.

Thanks
But I have the opposite problem. My studs are too short for my think flanged exhaust so I need to A: replace the studs with long ones B: grind down the thick flange to the thin spec or C: cut and weld thin flange onto my SC stock system thanks Steve

if you need some thin flanges to weld on I think I have 12 of them from my header project I never used

Hey mb911
thanks! Have you ever heard of anyone doing this? You probably don't have the same smog issuses that we do out here in the peoples republic of Kalifornia, but I think welding them on would pass the visual. I'm just wondering how close the tolerences would have to be,certainly much better than my skills Steve
