25 year slumber over this weekend

Wow... here I am at the end.
I have a 69T that has not moved since 82. It came with no motor. I have since replaced nearly 100% of all the moving parts with stuff from Elephant, Pelican, Porsche, Ebay, this list and Henry at Supertech. All new brakes, suspension, bearings, bushings, upgraded to all the recommendations from this list. New T-Bars,100% new hard and soft brake lines, turbo tierods, etc etc. Too much to list, but nearly every part is new or really nice. The motor... well, all new everything, valves, guides, chains, p's and c's , oil return tubes, oil lines, Solex cams, etc, etc.
It has been a long, and very expensive 2 years. Probably $10K in parts and motor. I am ready tp pull the trigger and twist the ignition key this weekend. My car is all wired up to run now. Motor installed, brakes, clutch gas, battery. All installed. Next step is to pour oil in and turn the key. I statically set the distro ( rotor lines up with little notch and both while #1 at tdc ) But there has never been any oil through these lines or this motor. Should I turn it over a number of times before I let gas get to the Zeniths? I am just cautious at this point. Any last minute suggestions would be a great help at this point. A little afraid that I left minute detail out.

Michael

I think pulling the coil wire and cranking it to build oil and fuel pressure before starting it would be prudent. Not sure if having the plugs removed would be beneficial when turning it over but I am sure a more knowledgeable member will voice up. Good luck and tell us how it works out.

Follow the instructions in Wayne's engine rebuild book for first start and break-in. You want to build oil pressure in the lines using the starter to turn the engine over, but without spark or fuel.

Ok.. pics tonight. You'll love the before pics. The after pics are pretty nice too. Henry did a nice job cosmetically, but lets see how his motor runs?

Yes,, I have that book, i'll crack it open tonight. In fact. maybe tonight's the night? All that is left is to fill the oil tank and crank it over.
All systems are go....

i have always pulled the plugs when turning a rebuilt engine over to circulate oil. Much less friction and force on the dry bearing surfaces, and much less stress on the starter. With my 289, I spun the motor for about 30 sec. intervals (no fuel and ingnition of coarse.) I then let the starter cool for about five minutes. then repeated the 30 seconds, etc.... It was enough to get oil to all the places it needed to be. Install plugs, wires, and all fuses and it should be ready to go.

congradulations.

Chris

I'm glad it started and all was well. I'd use caution in the future with respect to just pulling the coil wire. Not good for the CDI. '69's do have CDI, don't they? Anyway, I'd don't think it's good for any car if the coil wire isn't sent to ground.

Now he could have meant different wires. I'm talking about the center wire in the dist cap.

You've got me all jazzed up. Your car sounds a lot like mine. I'm looking forward to finishing it. It's been a little longer than 2 years that I've been working on it now.

A stock 69T should have old school Kettering ignition, the T got CDI in a later year. Only the E and the S got CDI if I remember correctly.

In any case, congrats!
