Clutch Adjustment
I just adusted clutch according to specs in Haynes manual. Shifts are much better. I can now feel the helper spring break over at top of the pedal. Maybe an inch into the pedal it breaks over and is smooth to the bottom. Clutch engages about an inch or so from the floor. Is it normal to feel the helper spring break over on 83 SC??

I think you're experiencing the thing I took many wwords to explain in a long ago thread. About an inch into the pedal travel, you can feel the horseshoe spring go over the top. to do this you have to wedge the arm under the tranny back toward the exhaust crossover, then start the clutch adjustment. Your clutch is working properly.

Thanks for the input. You know, I think I've gone too far. My wife may be able to shift this thing now. What have I done?

Don't be afraid to replace the clutch cable as well. It's an easy replacement that made a night and day difference. And Pelican has a nice article on the replacement too. It was pretty simple.
