Value of a 67 912 ???
Just ran across a 67 912 that has some issues. Looks good form the ouside but when you look under it the floor has been replaced with some sort of sheet metal. From the jack inserts to about four inches under the car looks good. Doesn't appear to have any rust for that four inches. After that they cut out the entire floor and inserted some sort of sheet metal. There appears to be a little rust in the rocker panels and some on the front fenders. The trunk area looks ok. They caught the rust before it really got out of hand. The interior is a 5 out of 10. (no sport seats) The engine sounds ok but I don't think it is matching #'s. (4096157) Couldn't find anything from stoddard on that number(anyone recognize it as a vw #). They are asking $6900 or best offer. Is this a project that will get out of hand? The floor has to be replaced (how difficult a job)? The other things I see are not that bad. Is it worth the effort and what's the worth after completion?

Run Forrest run!!
Sounds like a LOT of $$ for a big fixer-upper. You can find some decent (actually very decent) 912's for that money. Keep shopping. If you want the car, have it properly inspected and deduct all the repair costs. You'll probably find the seller will owe you cash to take the car. |
Price seems high, price for floor replacement is 2k + or -.
How many miles on motor? I got a deal on my 912, motor was rebuilt and original. I also had rust in rear passenger floor, got a temp. patch for now. Do a search of DarrelD I believe, he's done magic with his floor replacent. Value could be 7k tops. Gino |

This one is a LOT better sounding and in the same $$ ballpark. |
With bad floors (means more rust) so so int. and not original motor, it sounds like a $3500 car.

FYI
The engine number 4096157 is for a US 1969 912. So, it is a Porsche engine but not the right one for the car if the car is a '67. If the car is a '69 it is a little more desireable as it has the longer wheelbase. |
