Backedate to longhood or 74 RS look

My plan always was and still is to backdate my SC which I have just started the rolling resto. of. More and more I like the look of the 74 RS. 911 and Porsche World mag. did a article in this past edition that is coming close to sealing the deal as far as the 74 RS is concerned. It seems to me that the RS backdate of a SC would also be much more simple that the longhood version. If I can get a lower rear bumper valance and then just a front bumper piece I could avoid new wings with turn signals mounted in them and avoid the removal of my long Porsche reflector in the rear (which I originally did not like the looks of but it is now growing on me. Question, anyone here done this project? Also since the RS had larger flares than my SC will I even be able to get a rear bumper valance that fits w/o adding flares (which may be too much work for me)?

Please do a search on this. There is one thread (the "ultimate backdating thread" I believe its called) that covers it all, but others as well.

there are more but rennspeed has a set that bolts to your Carrera http://www.rennspd.com/ Maybe a fiber hood and rear decklid to save some weight ? both are simple projects.

Yes this is what I was trying to avoid if possible. I have been to the backedate thread but have not seen one or found one yet that just deals with the 74 RS look.

I may need to look over it again more clearly to get 74 RS info. Like in the Rennsport link I can't find a place that sells a 74 RS look bumper to fit SC flairs and I am sure I am in a lost battle on that front.

Here's some great information that also addresses the hood latch situation. I hesitate to go down this path with my 78 when I found out you have to cut the rear reflector box out of the car (point on no return!).

I am in favor of the 74 RS / early 74 IROC look

You will need to run a turbo flare in the back though...

It would be a heck of a lot easier to get an SC to look like a 74 RS than a long hood car though. You can buy a set of steel turbo flares and have them welded to your existing fenders... if done right ( but welded ) then you are looking @ ~ 2500 for the flares and having them installed. Then there are several companies that offer the right bumpers for that configuration.

Here is an SC with no added flares. These flares were made from the orginal fenders.

Single wiper and mirror delete

8" hand dollied front flair

MA Shaw duck tail

Eurotech's Rain gutter and sun roof delete

'95 3.6

27 gallon fuel cell with Elephant's triagulated front brace and mono balls.

Thanks guys! Just wanted kwm to see so another idea for a SC. I think you'll eventually see the same gallop to clone the '74 RS as we have seen in the early cars going to RS and RSR. The '74 was hard to find in its day and even harder now with so few ever produced.

The basic long nose shells are flexi flyers compared to the later cars. That and they have no rust protection. Starting with a stiffer, galvanised shell makes more sense to me in the grand scheme of things.

And a lot easier to do impact bumpers in glass than convert to a long hood. Aerdynamics are better as well, which isn't saying a lot.
