parts prices
Of all the places offering authentic Porsche parts, who has the best discounted pricing?
My experience right now is Suncoast. About 20% less than my local dealer or Pelican on a hard to find part. |

I try to buy here since it supports the forum -- the one you have made 2,573 posts on...
If you want your local dealer to exist and to carry parts, then you may want to support them some too. If you want Stoddard's to continue carrying the real hard to find parts AND to have parts guys that understnd and can find those hard to find parts, then you might want to support them some too. It isn't just about the low monetary price, it's about the total price over the long term. Price includes the risk of future non-availablity. So, what do you want to support? And at what cost to yourself? i.e how much do you save by going outside Pelican...

There is nothing wrong with shopping around but there is something a little funny about posting a thread here to encourage others to talk about it.
I try to buy most new stuff here. Even if I paid a bit more for a few things has been more than made up for thru buying and selling in the used parts forum. You have to say that it is hard to beat this place.

I buy parts from Pelican and my local dealer for my 92. Stoddard got all my business for the 69, that was before Pelican.
However, some unusual parts, which are only Porsche, are not carried by Pelican and are not discounted by Pelican. Stoddard offered a 6% discount, my local dealer 0%, but Suncoast offerd 20%. In this instance, my savings is over $200. I was looking for sources of other Porsche dealers who offered good discounts for Porsche peculiar parts.

+1...if the part you need is here at Pelican...go ahead for...Why go somewhere else...No reason for that.

Pelican offers more than just what is listed on the website. If you give them a call and ask, they will sell it to you.
I buy my racing stuff from a local race shop where I know everybody by name, all of my maintenance and/or restoration type stuff comes from Pelican. |

Well, that is true and I did call Pelican before posting. They could not offer any discount from local dealer pricing because they do not carry this part and would have to order it from Porsche .

In some respects it could be argued that the "value" gained in this forum could easily translate into real dollars. I can't imagine the amount of money the knowledge of this forum has saved me. In consideration of that, I think Pelican Parts looks like quite a bargain - discount or not. Does your local dealer have a forum?

Boy, peer pressure. Maybe this should be transferred to OT.

I'd just check the ads in Pano/Excl. for the stuff that Pelican doesn't have, Steve. Sunset in Portland is cheap if you live far away.
