Cabriolet top question
Is there a way to tell if my cab top is original to the car? I'm wondering if there are identifying marks on the plastic, or color of the headliner, etc. Just curious.

Try researching on Upholstery World and GAHH.com.
I have researched this in the past and found there are three types of canvas. I suspect with enough research you could determine yours. Also the head liner is separate material and very specific type if original. I don't have research info with me, send me a PM if you need more help. |

I asked the best guy in the UK to have a look at the top on mine a few years back, and as he walked to the car he said "original top". I asked how he knew and he said that the stitching had faded from the sun; it was white but he said it would originally have been black. Then he lifted up the fold by the back window and, sure enough, underneath the threads used were black. I had never even given it a thought to be honest, had assumed it was original as the car was quite low miles.

This may be helpful, click on canvas type to see texture/color.
Change year if not right for you. www.convertibletopguys.com/cgi-local/displaycat.cgi?cat=900 |
