Aftermarket Vendor Pix
I've often wondered where the cars come from that are used as "models" in Porsche aftermarket parts catalogs. I got my answer yesterday when I opened up the new TWEEKS catolog. They use OUR cars! To my surprise, in the top right corner of page 68 I see the wing on MY CAR! And in the same spot on page 71 is MY rear bumper! This really caught me off guard. I remember seeing TWEEKS photographers taking pictures of the rear of my car during their 2-day festival this past summer. I really didn't think much of it at the time. The pictures don't show much of the car, but I know this vehicle intimately. There is no doubt that it is mine. Now here's where things get more strange. My tail is a fiberglass GT2 that mounts on the existing lid, the car is an SC. The add is for a carbon fiber 993 one-piece unit. My bumper is a C2-like style, not an RSR. The licence plate has been altered and the exhaust pipes cut around. There is also an air vent above the plate that has been air brushed over. With all these changes how do I know it's mine? By the color of the tail light lenses, the screws that hold them in place, the exhaust pipes, the lack of a gasket between the bumper and the tub, the tail, the lack of rear badging, and the modification I made to the the plate bracket that allows the stock plate light to be used. Here's another kicker - all this stuff came from BWMotorworks, not TWEEKS! This is all very strange. Maybe some of you marketing folks out there can tell me why companies do this sort of thing instead of showing a picture of the actual product that they are selling. Any body else discover their car moonlighting on them?

Sounds pretty legit, Rarly - although you may not have gotten the parts from Tweeks, they're still the same parts. I would consider this to be the highest form of flattery! I'll check out your car this evening when I get home.
Kinda creepy to think that you know your car that well, though - creepy because I'm the same way. ![]() ------------------ Mark Szabo 1986 911 Targa 3.2 |

Since you didn't sign a release to let them use your car, here's your chance to go lawyer-like and gouge em for every nickel!
![]() Actually I've found the Tweeks guys are a nice bunch of guys and a fairly good supplier so leave em enough moola$ to stay in business ![]() |

Here's something really strange. On page 9 in the corner is my wife??? I thought that guy she was going to looked a little too polished to be a mechanic. On page 178 in the bottom corner is my battery!! I know it is. Just joking. First off, the last place you would find my wife is wearing or having anything to do with the "Porsche" name. I think she views it as competition? RarlyL8, when was that get together? These catalogs, if anything like the Yellow Pages I advertise in, take at least several months to assemble. I am not doubting you know your vehicle though. I also see on page 89 in the top left corner is your interior. HA HA HA. Thanks for the laughs..

Actually I'm not kidding. The show is done anually on the 3rd weekend in July. I'm not the least bit upset about the use of the car, on the contrary, I'm flattered. The thing is, the parts on my car are NOT the parts that they are advertising. This seems odd to me. You might think this a joke but many small details give it away. The color of the rear deflector, the gap in the top part of the left hand engine lid (caused by dual shocks on that side). When a guy builds a car from the tub up you'd better believe he knows every bolt!
