Does this make my butt look big?

Does this make my butt look big?

Seriously. I'm making progress. Check out the front.

The kit is from GT-Racing. I'm not real sure about the rear flares.

Please give me your opinions on whether they look right. I realize the rear bumper is a little saggy. Evidently the clamp on the inside must've come loose when I backed out of the garage for the pic and I didn't notice until I did the posting. You get the idea though.

Thanks,

Hal

show me more

HAL,
do you have any pictures prior to putting the flares on.
and when you cut the old flares off etc....

More progress pictures....

I want to do this but I am scared *****less about taking the cutter to the car.

I want to do exactly what you are doing now.
Please take more extensive photos and post them..

And tell me how you plan to attach the fiberglass to the metal.

Chris

Do I have more pictures! But, of course I do.

Check my blog.

http://hals911project.blogspot.com

I've chronicled the whole thing. My goal was to offer the most complete archive of the process available. I'm trying to answer ALL the questions.

It seemed to me that most people that posted about this or had blogs about it omitted huge portions of the process. Not intentionally, mind you. I just think that most people do so much themselves and then have the body shop do the rest. And what goes on at the body shop is just black magic or underappreciated.

"It costs how much to have flares done!?!?! Why?!?!?" That's the question I'm trying to show you the answer to.

The important thing to remember is that it's nothing more than a bunch of small projects. If you can't organize and finish projects, don't do it. If you can, there's nothing to it.

Looks really nice. I put flares on my 81 and going for the 73 RSR look. Like you I thought my rear look funny, but I think what's throwing you off are the wheels. Once u put on the WIDE wheels it will fill the flares.

good work and keep us posted

Thanks guys, the rear wheels go out next week for mod's. I guess when I get them back I can determine if the flares are right.

Sweeny Todd is also cockney rhyming slang for Flying Squad - the UK Police internal investigation unit.

Yo Hal --> must be that Houston humidity. My butt's getting bigger too. Here's some pics of my widebody update. Not to hyjack, but hey we're neighbors...

Started with ST flares

Added chicken fried steak

Getting wider by the minute

I think a wide body party might be in order in the not too distant future. And stand by...I'll start my ST to RSR thread soon enough.

Have you got a color in mind? I'm going continental orange #107.

Dude! Awesome project. And you're in Willis. I'm in Katy.

We should get together. Are there any other projects in Houston right now?

What year car is that? Are those flares from GT? I had the same problem you did with them where they won't meet up properly with the rear fender. I had to cut and change everything just to get it to match up.

Are you doing it yourself?

figaro was the barber of seville.
sweent todd was the demon barber of fleet street in london.
he would slit his customers necks with a razor perhaps to sell
the bodies to anatomists. his story was made into a broadway musical.
i'm not gay, not that there's anything wrong with that.
the flares look sweeeet.

Baby Got Back!

Oh, and Sweeny Todd is a famous play about a barber of Fleet Street in London who along with his lover, conspires to rob and murder barbershop patrons and dispose of their bodies by having them made into meat pies at a local bakery. I saw it many years ago and it is a weird blend of drama, horror and morbid humor. Johhny Depp is cast as Sweeny Todd in an upcoming movie.

So now you know...

Yeah, I think it looks a little wonky with the smaller wheels in there, but once those flares are filled out with proper sized wheels, that'll look awesome!

Howdy Hal --> yup those are GT Racing Parts. It was intentional however that the rear bumper didn't match up with the flare. I wanted to "stretch" out the flares a bit for additional clearance. My bodyman magician managed to pull them out prox 2" wider than a stock 11" flare. Really cool way he did it, too. I'll post some photos in a few days.

Do you have a completion date in mind for your project? I hope to have the bodywork phase complete by the end of the year on mine. At that point I want to "put it back on the street". After that, some suspension set-up work. Then head for the track.

It would be cool to get together and compare projects. There are several projects working in Houston, though not all involve bodywork. HEY you guys chime in!
