Targa Top
I am considering purchase of an 87 targa. One of the pins that holds the rear of the targa top down is broken. Any ideas on repair or cost?
Thanks, Michael w |

Michael,
I believe they are around $100, as they are mounted is a special shock-mount called 'Metalastic' or 'Silentblok' in various publications. I suppose you could attempt to drill out the broken pin, fabricate a replacement from a broken Dilivar head stud ... and epoxy it back in the old mount. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

It is difficult to believe that the only thing wrong is the car is the targa top post. Be sure to have the car checked out. The post is cheap compared to other problems that may be hidden. Your first request from the seller should be the mainence records. This will provide you will a pretty good history of the car's maintenance and repairs. |

Whoa! I thought you said this car is a Cabriolet? There is some commonality it the winshield/top interface, but cabrio tops don't have the longitudinal 'Silentbloc's' and pins that Targa's do ... so which is it? It doesn't make any difference regarding my declaration to go get it, tomorrow, but the 'appeal' of a Cabrio still sounds better to me!
If it is a Cabrio, and the pins are vertically oriented, then they are threaded aluminum, covered with a plastic sheath, nowhere as intricate as the 'silentblocs' and probably only around $20-$25! I bought some spares about 10 years ago, and they were about $20 each from Vasek Polak. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |
