Red face '76 sporto stalls

This is real strange. I finally got my first 911 sportomatic and the car stalls when I'm at a stop light. I don't know what it is but this also happens when I put it in reverse. The only way to start it again is to put in PARK. I learned the the hard way over and over and over again. This was just a drive around the block. When at idle for 5 mins it cuts off. My first experience not good at all. sigh........

When you say stalls, do you mean that the engine idle is diminished to a point where it dies, or do you mean that the transmission mibehaves in some way? Is this a "from a dead stop" issue?
