ugly pics of chain ramps

I found two bkn timing chain ramps on the right hand side of the housing...I inspected the remaining ones and they are all OK...I removed the visibles bkn pieces...Question: What will happen if there are some bits that found their way inside the case...???

Not as ugly as yours but not handsome either. Inlet screen to the pump should prevent them getting into unwanted places.

Not as ugly as a broken piece landing between sprocket and chain causing it to skip a tooth, then loss of precise valve timing followed (quickly) by, "Valves, meet pistons".

This happened frequently with the earlier hard rubber-type chain ramps and was the reason my car was on jack stands for years.

Did a chain tensioner let go in recent history? The resultant loss of tension could have damaged and broken the ramp.

Remove the sump plate and see if you can retrieve more pieces.

Not to highjack your thread, but related all the same.

I just retrieved a busted piece of chain ramp from inside the case. 2.7CIS '76 engine, low miles, but stored a long time. I'm wondering if I can replace all the chain ramps without tearing the engine down. It is out of the car on an engine stand, cam chain covers are off. How difficult a job... anyone?

Thanks.

Kirk

I just replaced the timing chains...the ramps...and the sprockets...! I did it with the engine in the car...easy to do...Just follow our host book on 911 engine building/restoring
Sherwood...I don't have a sump plate on my 3.2....
Should be OK if the screen at the inlet end of the pump do his job...!
