Anyone running 45s on front?
 

I am going to run 245/45-16 on the back. Tirerack suggests 205/55-16 for the front. Is anyone using 205/45 or 225/45 on the front of a narrow body car?

I have 225/45/16 and 245/45/16's on the rear.

Whether they fit or not depends on the wheel o/s and width, the specific tire(nominal size is only a guide to actual size and shoulder profiles vary widely), and suspension settings.

In general a 225/45x16 on +23.3 mm 8" Fuch will be fit better than a 225/50x16.

If this is mostly street driven I would use 205/55 on 7s in front.

I ran 225/45 and 245/45 SO-3s on 7&9's for three years on my '87 coupe. The 225/45s fit better and I think looked better. I actually have the fronts with about 50% left on them if you're interested in them - plus their in Solon. Here's a picture of them on the car.

Too bad you missed our fun run a couple of weeks ago. My car is pretty low in the front, about 25 ". Safe to assume that you didn't have any clearance issues? It doesn't look like the SO-3s are still available in 245-16 or I'd take them. Thanks!

I'm running 225/45 x 17 on the front with Borbet 7.5 wide rims with 255/40 x 17 in the rear on 9's.

FYI, Steinel's is an authorized Tire Rack installer. If you order tires from the Tire Rack, you can have them shipped directly to Steinel's.

You didn't state the width of your wheel's?...
If you have 6's on the front, stay with the 205/55!

Doug, 225/50/16 on 7's which cut into the edge of the tire at time , and have to watch the front on dips, also need to roll edges in. And 245/45/16 back on 8's The car came with Borbet 7.5 205/50/17 and 255/40/17 in back, I felt it looked out of proportion, too high looking !! now Iam having 2nd thoughts, regards/////peter

Been running 225/45 and 245/45s for the last 4 years. First year on 7/9s later on 8/9s. The 225/45 is pretty small and will generally fit under an unrolled SC fender just fine on a 7" wheel if the car isn't lowered too much.

Thanks for all of the responses. I just bought a set of 9s. I will be running 7s on the front. I need to replace all four tires unless I run 245/50 on the back. It appears most suggest 45s. Just trying to make a decision before I order them from Tirerack.

I ran 225/45 and 245/45 on 7&8s with no problem. Here's a pic that compares the two.

The cars were set at the same height with the same tires (Yoko ES100s). Notice how the SC (on the left) has a slight tuck under all the fenders with the stock size while the Carrera has a little room all around.

Patrick, What brand tires are you running?

Saw this one coming... It's important for you to share what kind of driving you are doing with the car. Then everyone will share their opinion.

Hankook RS2's. Ralph got the same... I've only put about 500 miles on so far, but they've been terrific. I had Falken 451's, now 452 is the new version, and they were excellent! I don't think you can get a better street tire for the money than the Falken. Less than $100 per tire. Excellent dry and wet performance. Choices are slim in the 225/45/16 size! I've made the horrible mistake ($$$=:D ) of taking my car to the track now... The Falken's were very predictable on the track, but I was looking for maybe a little softer compound short of an R compound tire. The Hankook's seem to fit the bill. I'm actually doing a DE tomorrow, first run on these tires. For the Hankook's, check out Edge Racing. They provided very good service for me. Another decent source for Falken is Vulcan Tires.
