2 year project coming to a close!
 

First off I'd like to thank everyone on this forum for providing your time and so much valuable infomation. without it I would have never attempted this restoration project.
And to my wife for putting up with this nonsense.

Here are the details.
I good friend told me about a car that had been sitting at a shop for a very long time. It was a silver non sunroof coupe, just what I was looking for.
I talked with the shop owner who said he thought the the PO was interested in selling the car. I contacted him and he was interested.very interested!

Come to find out, the car had been sitting there waiting for a top end rebuild for almost a year and he had been beaten down by the shop owner who was in no hurry to get it done.

I bought the car, called a flat bed and my friend and I gathered up the engine parts in plastic totes.

Then I posted on Pelican looking for someone to rebuild the engine and was given Axel Conrads number in Connecticut.
He did a outstanding job on the rebuild and was very reasonable with his price. Great guy to talk to also. Thanks goes to Mike!

Now the engine was in and I was driving it. it ran great and handled like a go cart! I put about 300 miles on it and decided it was time to get this thing looking like a Porsche should.
It was a daily driver for the PO and needed ALOT of work.

Dgraphic911 from this board let me use his welder to which I will always be greatful and that's when the restoration began.

After all the welding was done it was time to send it off to be plastic blasted. I tripple taped the car off myself to insure that there would be as little mess as possible. I didn't want media every were.
Jadams1 from this forum actually stopped in to check on the car for me and sent pictures while it was being done. Can't find the pictures he sent but hopefully he can post a couple.

Rewind.
All of the welding was done over last winter. It was freakin cold out in the garage. I used a propane bullet heater and the arc of the mig weld to keep warm.
Now forward.
After hand sanding the car to smooth it out after the blasting, it was primed with Dupont acid etch primer and then euro high build primer. It was done wet on wet so the first coat of high build would bite to the base.
The fenders and doors, ect were shot while off the car in the same fashion. Special thanks goes out to Don at Narragansett autobody for all his help throughout this project!

Here's the pics from American Paint and Sandblasting. Ron is a very skilled and patient DIY'r. I have seen the car through much of the stages and it is done right and looks great. The next test is to see who has the fastest 1980 ROW 911SC. :)

After lots of reassembly and lots of tweeking this is where we are at now.
The front rubber bumber stip needs to go back on and the door panels have to be installed.
Everything on the exterior with those exceptions are complete.
all the panels are aligned and I'm happy with them.

All the weather stripping and window gaskets/felts are new from are host. Along with a ton of other things.

It's back on the road after a couple of years and it screams!

I am going to be painting my silver 77 carrera 3.0 and I'm wondering what color silver you used, stock color for year or different? where did you buy the paint? One stage or two?

Thanks guys. I actually have two young kids and did most of the work after they went to bed. I usually would get started around 7pm and go as late as I dared. Our day starts at 5:30 am so there were some rough mornings.

Jax911, I used the factory color 936 Silver metalic CC for my year. All my supplies came from Providence lacuer. They are located in Cranston.
