Oel Gauge
Can someone educate me on what is normal for this gauge? I know when its warming up the needle will be at the red mark for a while. But what is normal for this gauge when the engine is warmed up?

Hi Frank,
I discussed this at length on the rennlist forum. Search under 2.7racer. Bottom line, as you know, to check oil level in the reservoir tank, you get the motor warmed up, put the car on a level surface and check the dipstick with the engine idling. If the oel gauge is working correctly, it should be close to what you see on the dipstick. Essentially if the oil is near the high mark on the dipstick, it will be high on the gauge. Conversely if it is near the lower dipstick mark, the gauge will be at or near the red mark. While driving the car the gauge will fluctuate from high to low depending upon conditions. The only time you should use the gauge is when the car is warm, level and idling. It's a good idea to check it for accuracy by comparing the dipstick to the gauge. Additionally the oil in the reservoir tank will gradually, over a period of several hours, drain into the motor until the levels are equalized. This is why the oil usually reads low when you first start up the motor. It takes until the motor has warmed up until the oil levels have normalized.

Fenderguy, that gauge can be high or low, seemingly independent of the dipstick; but I have found that it's consistent. In my SC, it does happen to match up pretty well with the dipstick. In my 993, correct oil level was right at the top of the red on the bottom of the gauge.
You have any pix of your cab conversion? No need to repost and use up storage if you have already posted. J
