Correct '72 Sport Seat Base Finish
It looks as though the bases on my '72 sport seats are hand painted. The undersides are painted satin black
but the top side and the recliner mechanism are obviously hand painted. I thought it was wrinkle finish until I took a closer look. What was the correct finish for '72? ![]() ![]() ![]()

Mike:
I'm actually in the middle of this as well. The finish on your bases looks a bit different than those on my 73t. Where yours do appear hand painted in places, mine have more of a satin gloss black finish which is definitely from the factory. I'm having these powdercoated with a satin black finish. The shop I'm working with will mask off the handles and finish them off with a clear coat which should give them a nice clean look as well. The seat "hinge" on mine does have the wrinkle finish which I'm having a hard time matching. I may end up cleaning it as best I can (the wrinkle is pretty much intact) and then spraying it with a matt black Wurth paint (may possibley prime first). I'm hoping this will maintain the overall wrinkle apprearance. I'm not shooting for concours, just a neat, fresh, appearance so no worries there. I'll post pics once I get teh first batch back. Best... Oliver

No under the seat pics on file...but an agreement on satin black. No repaint on mine.
