996 with 100k miles?
Pending a PPI, is it worth considering a 2000 996 with over 100k miles or will it cost me more in maintenance than its worth?

Probably should post (or ask a mod) to move this to the 996 forum.
All depends on: 1) starting condition 2) how it was maintained 3) how much you are going to use it 4) what your definition of "its worth" is. Mileage is on the high side of average for a daily driver. We simply don't have the mechanical longevity information like we do for much older 911's. They do have more things to go wrong (as do all modern cars), but baring the typical problems which are either sorted or won't become an issue, it's not an outrageous amount of mileage. If you are going to drive it for half a dozen years and put another 50K miles on it - probably okay. But you should get a better informed opinion than my conjecture.

![]() It also says that it starts without hesitation, and accelerates aggressively straight down the road without any pulling. There are no unusual knocks, pings, etc. When applying the brakes there is no vibration, pulsation or pulling. Everything works, including all the dials, gauges, air conditioner and instruments. Once again, of course I would need to get a PPI to verify. It will not be a daily driver as I have a company car. It will be more of a weekend toy. By worth it, you have to understand I'm coming from a rocky relationship with my former Boxster; new clutch ($2k), new locks ($400), motors for the trunk/hood plus other electrical issues ($800), etc..... So, am I going to be able to enjoy this car or will I be taking it back and forth to the dealership? |
