Where's my oil cooler?

I have an 1976 911S Targa 2.7l US spec. (49 state) engine type 811/82.
There is no oil cooler in the right hand side front fender, I was expecting a trombone type cooler after reading the Bruce Anderson performance handbook.
It must have one I suppose, nominal oil temp. is around 200-210F after a run.

The car has a 5 blade fan, is it strictly neccessary to upgrade to an 11 blade item given that the car is not fitted with thermal reactors and now resides in the UK where the climate is on the cool side of temperate?

It was my intention to change the fan, but second hand fans are like hen's teeth in the UK!

The car runs great I just want to keep it that way.
The PO had the engine rebuilt 20k ago by a reputable dealer, I'm suprised they didn't change the fan then.

For the UK, the 5 blade fan is good enough, as it is in Germany (may be you need to modify to an Amphi Car actually?)
But I would recommend to have an oil cooler!!! Trombone style again is good enough in mid Europe, but at least have it.

Check if you have ANY additional/custom made oil cooler by chasing the oil lines coming out of the oil tank.

Your engine has an internal oil cooler, as did all 911s up to the 964. Of course, it would probably benefit from an exterior one as well.

Yeah, that internal oil cooler is located at the right front side of the engine and is fed air by the fan mentioned. You'll be able to see the bottom of it when you look from under the car and the 3 seals (one large, 2 small) where it attaches to the engine can be the source of those minor oil leaks that are sometimes hard to find.

What is a good upgrade for the trombone oil cooler? I live in Florida. Where is a good place to get one?

You can pay as little as $300, or easily over a thousand.

I'd recommend at least checking out Racer Parts Wholesale. Why pay an arm and a leg for such a simple component?
