Ignition switch question..
 

Please forgive this if it's a newbie question, but I just want to be clean on the reason. Why is the 911 ignition switch on the left side of the steering column. I once heard that it was designed that way so when doing a "Le Mans start" the driver could start the car and put it in gear at the same time. Is that correct?
