Cleaning and polishing wheels?
I just bought some used wheels off of ebay, they are flat-dish style and will be used for street and track. Not my favorite design but they are forged, light, and I paid $200 including shipping for all four. The reason I only paid $200 is that they have some mild curb rash and one wheel has some pretty fair gouges in the face - noticeable from 10ft or closer.
So, I smoothed out some of the gouges with a wire brush and it looks better from that standpoint but the finish is a problem around these areas - started on the worst wheel only at this point. The wheels also have road grime/tar all over them and I thought this would clean easily, wrong. Do these wheels likely have clearcoat? if so how to clean them, and should I undertake polishing - what works or do you know a place that could do this for a reasonable fee? Thanks.

It is hard to tell without a picture. Are they anodized, painted, polished? If you want to strip paint or anodizing, oven cleaner works. Different grades of sand paper, steel wool, and polishing compound (in that order) will work. Use the 'search' button on the top right, there is a lot of info on Pelican about this.
Cheers
