Can the doors always be locked from the outside?

In case of an electrical problem or microswitch malfunction? I can see how I can manually unlock with the key but I'm unable to lock the doors with the key. Any ideas?

lock the left door from the inside, exit the right side, lock button down and hold the trigger as you close the door. works on most of them. 993s, not so good.

Tx. Reason I'm asking is that I dissassembled the complete doors and re-installed the door handles only to find out that I cannot lock them with the key. On both sides that is. I checked the fuse which seems ok so I took the panel off again.
Looking at the mechanism I deduct that opening is done with an electrical pulse.
Can I conclude that if the doors don't lock with the key that there's an issue with the microswitch or relay?

The other day my battery died (I left the parking lights on). I came back to find the doors unlocked. Someone at Porsche decided that if the battery voltage falls below a certain level, the doors should unlock. Then you can open the door and unlatch the front hood. Good thinking.

I've been spending a lot of time troubleshooting this system.
The central lock button will lock the doors but once locked I have to open them manually. With the key nothing happens. Could the fault be in the central locking control unit (passenger fender)?
I'm contemplating installing the two legged fork so I have a completely manual system.

If both doors are behaving the same way, you have a faulty control unit.

I converted my car to complete manual locking by replacing the latch mechanisms with a pair that have the double-prong. Bought them on ebay for $30 and it took me 30 minutes to swap them out.

Tx Dave. Both doors are the same so I think I just might go this route. The control unit is crazy expensive new and still expensive secondhand. I first am going swap the unit with a friend's unit, I'll decide after that.
30$ and 30 minutes work seems like a deal for peace of mind.
