Wax on rubber

I got some wax on the rubber strip that is on the bumper next to the trunk lid. Now there is a visible difference where the wax got on the rubber. Is there anything that I can use to get this off and make the rubber strip look uniform?

There is a product at automotive paint stores called 'paint cleaner' ... 3M and others make similar products, and it is intended for removing wax and silicones from paint, and I have found it also cleans rubber, too. It also removes a lot of the 'dead' and oxidized rubber from the surface rather aggresively, leaving lots of carbonblack on the rag or towel used, but it leaves the rubber uniform and free from waxes!

After doing what Warren said on cleaning the rubber, there is a liquid silicone based material that you can apply to the rubber to make it look like new.

I have used "Wesleys" tire black, and have seen various other kinds out in the market. Works on almost anything rubber and protects it very well. Also have used it on my Targa top and it lasts for a long time, even in the summer.

A little Dawn dish soap will get it off. I have used Mother's "Back to Black" and it seems to do a good job on the rubber.

I've been meaning to apply dialectic (SP?) grease on my rubber. This is the grease used t oprotect electrical parts. My neighbor has an old Fierro and has applied this grease to every rubber part on the car once when it was new (about 12 years ago.) And this guy is no dumby - an egineer for Boeing. I looked at his motor (hoses, plastic covers, etc.) and the rubber molding. It was like the rubber and plastic parts are brand new!!! Anyonew try dialetic grease on their rubber parts. I've checked hardware store and autoparts store but everyone looks at me like I'm asking for "opiupuhkj." Any one try this?

pbs911,

It was most likely Dow Corning 111 that your Boeing engineer was using, but it does not sound very practical to apply or maintain such a 'coating' on all of the rubber parts of a car, and it would attract and collect a HELL of a lot of dirt, grass clippings, small insects, etc. to boot!!! Of course, said engineer probably had an endless supply of DC3, obtained with a three-finger discount! He sounds like a bit of an eccentric ...
