'78 SC clock problem

Here's the situation: I don't know if it would be better to look for a replacement clock or try to fix the existing one, but here goes...

The second hand on the clock in my SC doesn't move. It ticks like it's working, but it doesn't actually move. Also, the clock frequently has to be adjusted to the right/current time, as it tends to fall behind a lot.

Is this a simple DIY fix or should I be looking for a replacement? I'm new to 911 ownership and I noticed that 911 replacement parts are rather pricey, at least for my budget, so that's the reason I was asking if maybe I should try to repair it or get someone else to (since I have very limited DIY car repair knowledge but am eager to learn!)

Any suggestions?

If you want to have a go at attempting to diagnose the problem, read through this thread.

It sounds to me like your issue is mechanical, such as a partially stripped gear. You might be able to find a clock for donor parts at a swap meet for $5 to $20.

There are experts like North Hollywood Speedometer that will also repair your clock.

My clock's sweep second hand does not move unless you set it because it is an elapsed time marker. (the white hand)

As oneblueeyedog notes, the white hand isn't a second hand, but reather an adjustable marker hand. You can set it to the position of the minute or hour hand to mark a beginning of a time you wish to measure, such as the elapsed time for a journey. You'll note that twisting the small knob in the center moves it and twisting the same knob while also pushing it in, moves the clock hands.
