pedal cluster removal
Hi, In order to remove the pedal cluster do you have to lift the front of the car to remove the skid plate to access any bolts or nuts that secure the cluster or is removal of nuts strictly from inside the car? The car is a 77 911. Thanks Jerry

My 1979 930 required lifting the front to remove the belly pan. This allows access to the two nuts/bolts (I can't remember which now) that hold the front of the cluster to the body.

also, leave the brake rod attached to the pedal and the flat bar bolted to the side of the cluster. just remove the top bolt for the flat bar on the side of the upper aluminum housing and pull the top clip[ and pin for the brake rod. way less screwing around that way.

Thanks for the replies, One reason I am asking is that I currently have the rear of car jacked up and supported to do some rear susp work. I plan to rebuild my pedal cluster this winter and replace the clutch cable also. I know I needed to have the rear lifted to replace the clutch cable so now I know I need to raise the front to remove the belly pan and remove the bolts/nuts. Correct? Also, after replacing the MC last winter I can see that it would be easier to remove the brace from the MC housing than from the cluster. Any other helpful hints for this job? Thanks again Jerry

You can access the pedal cluster bolts without lifting the car. All you do is reach in with your left arm and a ratchet. The belly pan has to be removed first though.
The clutch cable job is easy. The rear of the car does have to be lifted. What's wrong with the cable? The cable travel should be about 25mm at the trans. If you are getting less the problem could also be a broken pedal cluster shear pin. BTW, shear pins of the correct size can be purchased at ACE for 25 cents or so. jt -84 targa |
