Define quality tire shop.
I use a place in Huntington on Depot Road called All Weather Tires. Family business that started out in a small shack and has grown exponentially. The work is all done "pit crew" style. You pull up, they direct you to a spot, two guys come over and jack up the car, one of the owners comes out and asks you what you need, 15 minutes later you are back on the road. If you pay cash they'll "help" on the tax and you still get a receipt. I have never had anyone else beat their price. They have an alignment shop across the street if you need it. If you don't trust them to do the alignment then TKX Performance, (formerly RPM Racing) is a mile away. TKX is run by a gentleman named Tasso, he is one of the NY PCA Tech Advisers and a down right nice guy who really knows his stuff. Scott

Euro-Tire in New Jersey, about 1/2 hour west of the lincoln tunnell off Route 80. They know what the hell they are doing.

+1 All Weather Tires
Go to Charlie Jr. and tell him to be real nice to your rims. Use glue weights on the inside. Don’t show up on Friday or Saturday, It’s a mad house.

I use All Weather Tires also, for my "normal" cars. Cheap and fast. I have not used them on my Porsche. Last time I was there they did damage a rim on someones car, it did happen to be a Porsche with factory wheels. I did not stay for the whole incident so I do not know how it ultimately came out. I do know before I left, the owner of the place was trying to wiggle out of it. We did't do it, it was already that way, that wheel is HOW MUCH.

Rubber Needed
I will second EuroTire on Rt. 46 East in West Caldwell past the Willowbrook Mall. They do first rate work and carry all the popular brands.

Euro Tire inspires confidence. I will go there soon to have my winter tires fitted to my M3. Once I had tires drop-shipped by Tire-rack to a place in Riverhead, STS is the name. Worked out fine.

+2 For Taso at TKX
If your worried about the quality of service at a "tire shop" why not have Taso get the tires for you and have him install them? At least you will get a better standard of service with a Porsche tech than with just a "tire jockey". IMHO, I would rather have the work done at a reputable shop that has experience with Porsches than have some 20 yr old that knows how to work a jack change my tires. I think you will get a higher level of care for your prescious P-car that you are looking for.

Guys Thanks for weighing in.
I lived ( grew up there?) in Huntington years ago and remember Charlie Senior , loved the in / out pit crew style - glad to hear they are still in business. Only had many positive experiences with them way back . Of course I am fussier with my 911 than with any family sleds with the exceptioon of the beemer wagon. I will make some calls to the suggested places and report back . Any thoughts about the all weather solution? Living on LI again and nowadays feels more like NC - no need to put the car away!! I'll be back

Jamaica Tire in Freeport - right off the Medowbrook (Merrick Road exit) used to be a good family run operation.
They won't have what you need in stock - but they can order them. They may still be a Pirelli dealer... Or you can get Tirerack or some such to drop-ship them there. Good luck. Also, most good P-Car mechanics can change tires and balance them correctly. German Auto in Amityville is my favorite shop on LI. |

Tires
After shopping around for tires recently for another car, I found the lowest prices by far are at Tire Rack. Problem then is finding a place to have them installed. I lucked out with a local Exxon station. I would still go to Euro Tire for wheel alignment.

With the amount of tires that All Weather do in a day they are bound to have a screw up here and there.
And I've seen plenty of people try to pass off "damage" at shops because they are cheap mofo's. I really have never had a problem with them, I just watch them and if I see something I don't like I tell them and they listen right up. The "pit" guys are like waiters, they know that if they provide good service that there is a $5 or $10 spot in it for them. They have beat every price I have brought them. The suggestion to get the tires from them and take them to Tasso is a good one. That way he can do the alignment as well. BTW, Charlie senior is still there every day.

late reply but wanted to say hey to another year-rounder!
I chose to use a second set of wheels w/phone dials mounted with hard core blizzaks. True while they are on the car handles like a truck but there's no stopping it unless the snow is so deep that you run out of ground clearance. No joke the day I put them on it snowed about 5 inches (in Columbus, Oh) and I had a ball. Previous to that with the summer tires on it wouldn't move if there was even a trace of snow. It's been so warm so far this year that I'm still riding the bike but the dials are ready when it turns nasty...
