targa window seal - cloth seal refurbishing?
Targa's have a window seal that is attached vertically to the targa bar and seals the trailing edge of the window along the targa bar. This seal is covered in a black cloth. I know that a dye can be used to "return" this cloth to blackness, but, has anyone attempted to recover this seal with cloth? If so, where did you get the cloth. Or does anyone have any ideas on what type of replacement cloth. I've looked and can find anyone selling a replacement seal.

I had someone ask me about the same thing. We communicated over the net and here is the solution. It is a copy of an email. I hope this will help you. I just replaced the entire seal. I wish I had know that I could get this type of material before shelling out the bucks.
Jamie 71 911T targa >Got the material from a motor trimmer. It's the same as the canvas cover that's used for cabriolets or convertables. Quite thin and with a sort of rubberized backing. I loosened and pulled out the lower section of the seal. ne side had deterioted to the extent that I pulled of the old covering but the other side was good enought to leave. I experimented with the shapes required and made templates from some old material. When satisfied, I cut the canvas and fixed into position with a contact adhesive and it turned out beautifully. Obvioulsy, do not use a water based adhesive. Regards |
