adding an intercooler to a 930

Is adding an intercooler to an early 930 without one a complicated matter. I'm sure a
new tail would be needed for clearance. What else to look for.

Thanks.

There are two methods that I know of to add an intercooler to an early 76-77 930.

Step one of either course is to buy and install a tail that will fit an intercooler. I would suggest just using one from a 3.3 liter turbo.

Then either buy an intercooler and use the intake from a 3.3, or Fred Garretson's kit which handles it all. However, I don't know if Fred's kit is still available. For details, you should talk to the folks at www.imagineauto.com

I have done work with "imagine" also. Stephen knows his way around the turbo's. I recently ordered a number of parts from them for my own 930 and had excellent pre-sale advice and delivery.

I questioned their price on one item, it was $100.00 higher than the mfgs suggested list. I told him it was my fault and I should have shopped around to make sure the price was appropriate. I asked him to see if he could do anything about the price....it must have ticked him off he hasn't responed to my last four e-mails requesting after sale support.

Again, I do have to say they were a great help, providing technincal support they gained from practical experience. Stephen was understanding of my need to ask a thousand questions prior to ordering the upgrades.

I don't picture myself as a difficult customer (since I deal with them all day), but maybe I was.....

I also have done business with IAuto. One order was for APR rodbolts. They sent stock 930 units at a similar price. I returned them and purchased APR units from APR. It took a couple of months but I got a refund for the 930 bolts. Refunds and returns are not something any business wants to deal with, but they should. It usually costs them future business.

As for the 930 cooler - many 930 owners update their coolers so there are a lot of stock units out there with the proper bracketry. I'd try that for cheap first.
