I'm afraid if I started my own business I'd go broke pretty fast with all the time it took me to crank this one out. However, in some weird way refinishing fuchs is theraputic for me. Here's the last one I did for the spare on my '84. This was a paint/polish job.

Kilo: Beautiful !I need to learn the Procedure some time , my fuchs were refinished in Mexico for $ 240.00 usd which is cheap by US standards but maybe I can spend that kind of money in other Porshe stuff !!! Like the new Martini Jacket !!!

Jose,

I'd estimate materials cost for a set of 4 to be about $65.00. That's a guess though. The biggest cost is the paint stripper and sandpaper/3M pads but this isn't so much about saving money. All the time you will spend is worth far more than that.

It's really about the sense of accomplishment. I think Fuchs wheels are just such a timeless classic. I enjoy bringing them back myself.

Don,

Melbourne area. The bumperettes have to go on. I'm going for the original look this time around. Maybe something different in a few years.

Will the Scotch Brite aproach work on chrome?

nineoneone 01-23-2007 07:56 AM

I used P.V.C. pipe cleaner to remove the plastic coating on my wheels. cookie cutter.Try it on a small piece, cut your work time into ž time. you won't believe how easy it peels off. Will do my Fuchs later in warm weather.

The biggest time eater for me isn't removing the paint or anodizing it's sanding out the gouges, scratches and dings in such a way that I remove the least material. I prefer to do it slowly with a finer grit, though 80 isn't really fine, but any rougher I'd be concerned with.

As far as chrome goes, the scotch-brite is really the end of the process. I'd think chrome removal would be the beginning of it.

Well,....that's nice to know....I guess.

I hate broccoli, but what does that have to do with Scotchbrite refinishing of Fuchs rims?
