S cams diffs
Does someone have the part #s for
2.4 S cams? Are the 2.0, 2.2 and 2.4 MFI S cams all the same #? I would think not but an individual is telling me otherwise. I am starting a 2.4T to 2.4S conversion project and need to secure the right cams or have my T cams ground to S specs. Thanks. ------------------ Bill 72911T |

Bill,
Yes, ALL of the MFI 'S' engines, including the RS 2.7 and RS 3.0 use the same cams! Right cam is 901.105.168.00 and left cam is 901.105.183.01. You might also want to consider the GE-60 grind, an 'improved' grind developed by Jerry Woods when he was at Garretson Enterprises in the '80's. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa [This message has been edited by Early_S_Man (edited 11-16-2000).] |

So you are going to take your 2.4 T MFI to a 2.4 S MFI is this for top end track events or drivers Ed? If so this will be a very fun car for the top end driving performance one will need from their Porsche, but for bottom end it will lack if you plan on doing Autocrossing or 0-60 fun around town. Your 915 7:31 trans does 100% improve the bottom end though, I love these transmissions just take care of it because they are getting harder and harder to find.
Have you ever thought about going with carbs>? it is just that the Solex grind camshafts will give you a little of both worlds of bottom end and top end. Solex cams, port and polish the heads and bump the compression......hmmmm . It is just if you do not have a MFI set up for Early S it will cost around the same price to just go with carbs and with carbs your door opens for more variations in Performance mods, while the MFI does not give you as many options in camshafts profiles. One more hint you cannot regrind your T cams to early S, but the can be regrind to Solex which the Solex grind is right in the middle of the bottom end E's and top end early S. Either way, just make sure what you will build will perform and handle your needs in Performance not just high horse power readings on paper. Roy at http://www.motormeister.com |
