Long-shift vs. short-shift

I just wanted to post my latest experiment with my still relatively new to me car.
When I first got my car it needed a bunch of work including an engine install. Before even driving the car, I decided to replace all of the shifter/pedal bushings and install the factory short-shift kit.

After batteling with the alignment of the shifter for over one year, I still could not guarantee a smooth/grind free 5-4 shift. It was about 80% grind-free. Also, 1-2 & 3-2 shift was iffy as well since my 2nd gear synchro is worn.

Last night I decided to reinstall the stock shifter just to see how it felt compared to the short-shifter. I got to say that I much prefer the car with this shifter. The 1-2 shift is a little easier on the synchro and the 5-4 shift is almost a no brainer now. I'm not worried if the shift will knick reverse this time or not. It also seems like there is less of a chance to get into 2nd gear by accident as the shifter needs to move further to the left to get there.

The throw is longer, but to have more confidence in the shifting is worth more than a quicker shift.

My complaint with the 'full' short shifter was as you note, hardly and side to side feel and travel. I have the factory short shift in my car and it is pretty normal to use.
