Different cylinder head temp sensor diameters?
Hi Everyone,
I’m planning to replace the cylinder head temp sensor on my 1985 coupe, and have one (part number 930-606-915-00-M14) on the way to me from Pelican. Searching the archives for installation tips, I found one reference to two different sensors with different thread sizes (http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/6578-head-temperature-sensor-replacement.html) – not just wrench size, but different core diameters of the plug. Without pulling my old sensor, especially without cutting the wire to remove it, is there anyway to be sure I’ve got the right new part before starting the project? Thank you, Paul |
I just replaced mine with the same part you have on order. I had no trouble with different thread sizes, and from reading the thread you referenced, I'm pretty sure that the only difference between the two is that the old-style single wire has a 13mm hex head, the two wire replacement has a 14mm hex head.

That's great, thank you Matt. Anything else I should be thinking about before starting?
Thanks Paul |
Not really. I had my engine out of the car when I did this, so I can't give you a whole lot of tips on removal or installation. Hopefully it is easier than it looks. You will need a 14mm with a hole in the side to tighten down the new sensor, I couldn't get the open end side of a wrench on it, the space is pretty tight. The old one you can snip the wire to get a 13mm on it, like you said before. Good luck!
