DME Relay

after reading threads on DME realys, i bought an extra one to keep in the car. where does it go? in the DME box under drivers seat, or is there another place for relays on the car? and is it an easy to do self fix....thanks

Next to DME metal box under the drivers seat. Rather obvious actually when you peak under the seat. Easy to fit.

The round metal box on the other side is the altitude correction switch (if I remember correctly).

FWIW, I suggest that you go ahead and swap it out and make sure it works before putting it in the glove box. Why? Because 1) even new parts can be bad and 2) its a lot easier to replace in a dark parking lot if you've done it once on a sunny afternoon in your garage.

Manny,

I suggest that you go ahead and replace the relay, now, and leave the new one installed. The old one may be 20+ years old, and nearing the failure point on the mortality rate curve.

You can disassemble, remove the old solder with a suction tool, then re-solder with Ersin Multicore Savbit solder or Sn62Pb36Ag2 solder for extra strength joints ... and have a repaired spare. The following thread shows the problem areas needing repair:
