Amber tail lights = gray market?
Hi all, I was just wondering if you see amber (yellow) tail lights on a Carrera (presumably factory), does that mean that it is definitely a Euro or gray market car? Or, are there exceptions? I am curious as I am looking to buy an `86 Carrera with amber rear tail lights, but it doesn't have the front side markers, or "zzz" in the vin which would definitely give it away as a Gray market 911. Any help would me greatly appreciated!

EJ,
It doesn't mean a thing at all about the origin of the car! 'Euro' lenses have been readily available from parts suppliers for over 25 years ... a bit pricey, but they have been a very popular upgrade for the past 20 years, and I have a set on my car! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

I think all gray market cars had to conform to US DOT safety standards to get certified in the US. So Euro cars would have had their amber lenses replaced.
A quick way to tell if a car might be Euro is by the rear bumper guards. Are they small and spaced far enough apart for a Euro license plate? ------------------ Bill Krause '79 911SC Euro |

If it doesn't have "ZZZ" in the vin # it's not a row (Rest of world) or "grey Market"car.

replacing the stock US lenses on US cars has been very popular over the years . . .
The VIN definitively tells you what you need to know . . . |
