3.2 Engine Wire Harness Compatibility?

Well to make a long story short, I am having a misfiring issues and the local mechanic strongly believes it has to be the Engine Wire Harness as the previous owner did a fine hack job into it and we have checked and replaced many suspected parts.

The car is a 1984 with the original 3.2 engine. I have acquired 2 used 3.2 engine wire harnesses, but was told that those are not compatible with my engine since the original '84 has a different O2 setup than the later 3.2 years.

Does anyone know if the later year engine wire harness will be compatible or how to make it work? And I do have a DME (8k brain) from a later year 3.2.

Your thoughts are greatly appreciate. And in case anyone is interested, my misfire happen with and without load at exactly 4500 rpm. And yes, I have replaced the speed sensor (although I was also told by the local mechanic that it is not adjustable - as opposed to what I have read here on a few posts).

Thanks,
Darrell

If you decide on replacing the harness, I would suggest talking to Steve Wong about wire harness compatability. A couple other Pelican members and myself swapped an '84 euro carrera engine into an '87 american carrera setup bay without having to mess around with much electrical stuff at all. Steve Wong gave us some good info on the differences and likenesses of the harnesses, chips, etc.

Hi MBE,
Thanks for that scan. That is exactly what I needed as I was almost sure the speed sensor could be adjusted. I would bet money that my misfiring is caused by the speed sensor being installed incorrectly by the PO when they rebuilt the tranny. BTW what book or manual is that?

Hi Matt,
I will give Steve Wong an email or call after making sure my Speed Sensor is withing 8mm from flywheel.

Many thanks,
Darrell

HI Darrell, it's the workshop manual for a 3.2 CARRERA, and you need some glasses or a magnifying glass to read the monitor screen , as it is NOT 8mm but 0.8mm.

regards mike
