Attention California: MTBE Replacement
Many of you may have already heard this, but a gas station owner passed this on to me and I thought I'd pass it on to all of you.
I believe California is the only state to use MTBE. So apparently, the gas presently at the service stations contains the replacement to MTBE resulting in the loosening of gunk in their storage tanks. Although they have increased their filter size from 10mm to 30mm, the gas you are buying is also going to loosen any gunk in your tank. He suggested that you change your fuel filter once a month for a while and buy gas from places that do the highest volume. Reflecting on the information that it will loosen gunk, it sounds like free fuel injector/fuel system cleaning. I'm guessing the gas station owner knows what he's talking about though and this stuff has properties different from injector cleaner. The oil companies aren't planning to announce this until later this year. I'm due for a fuel filter replacement so I'll order a few from Pelican. I might slice open the old one to see what's inside too! If anyone's curious about what MTBE is and would like to know more about it, I know a little about it. People who know can correct me if I'm wrong: I think it was Al Gore's who hastily pushed it to be put in the gas because it creates better air clarity in the city. It was supposed to reduce emissions but as it turned out, just a teaspoon or so of this stuff in the water supply, destroys the potability of it for 10,000 years or something. It's turned several towns into ghost towns and it's been known for a couple years that this stuff is a complete disaster and now, finally they're deciding to replace it. The new stuff will probably turn out to be even worse... ------------------ Zach 77 911S 3.2 |
