Spare tire and wheel
My 1971 has a 1983 fuel tank and space saver tire and wheel. The wheel is steel. Anyone have anything different, like Fuchs. My other early cars had Fuchs spare wheels but they were not space saver tires.

Randy,
You can fit a (15 inch) collapsible spare tire on a (15 inch) Fuchs rim. It's not the easiest of tasks, but I've done it many times. Your best bet is to explain what you want to the tire guy, and physically help him. The bead is different, and you have to be careful with it. LOTS of soap!!! I've done this with tubeless 6X15 Fuchs and with 5.5X15 Fuchs, with a bead welded on. For the lucky few, there was a 14X5.5 Fuchs spare tire/rim available on the Carrera 2.7, but I only ever saw one. If you find one, keep it! Hope this helps, GeorgeK |

I think the spare wheels became collapsible in 1974 to allow a bigger fuel tank (20 gallons vs 16? gallons). If you therefore have a "big" fuel tank and collapsible spare you may not be able to fit a fuchs in (it might not have a big enough hole in the middle or might be too tall). Someone with experience should chime in now... Cam ------------------ Cameron Baudinet 1975 911S |
