Okay Warren..what should happen if I pull the connector off temp sensor
If I pull the head sensor connector off and start the car and it idles like ****. Then I touch the connector to the sensor and it stil idles like crap...
Or, is the temp sensor a kind of thing that works After it's been connected for a few seconds (as new data is used by the brain to compute stuff). ...any ideas? ------------------ Kurt B 1984 911 Carrera Cabriolet 75 914 1.8 |

With the lead disconnected, it would act just like your car has been idling ... an open is what I suspect your sensor is, currently! No, there isn't any time delay ... it is a NTC resistor (negative temperature coefficient) just like your oil temp sensor, it either works, or not! And, from your test ... you need a new one! If you want to test it, use a digital multimeter, and compare with the following: 32 degrees F -- 4.4 to 6.8K Ohms 60-85 degrees F -- 1.4 to 3.6K Ohms 105 degrees F -- 1.0 to 1.3K Ohms 175 degrees F -- 250 to 390 Ohms 212 degrees F -- 160 to 210 Ohms 265 degrees F -- 90 Ohms You can check at whatever ambient temp is there, but I think you will find an 'open' that is causing your idle problem! You could, of course, test my theory with the same potentiometer 'test jig' for testing your oil pressure gauge! Just dial in 3000 Ohms with your multimeter, hook one side to ground, and the other to the DME lead, start engine, and smile! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa [This message has been edited by Early_S_Man (edited 11-23-2000).] |
