What is best way to refinish sway bars?
I had the engine steam cleaned chasing down leaks last month. That project is now over, but when I look under the car, instead of an even coat of dirt (ignorance is bliss I'm told), the suspension's original coating is gone in many places and I'm worried about rust setting in. Like everything I've done with the car, one project leads to another as I can't seems to leave well enough alone.
So, it seems like a good time to take it apart and clean it up. What is the best way to clean them up? In particular would powder coating work on a sway bar (I'm worried about it the coating cracking), our should I just paint them with POR 15? Thanks for the suggestions. -Steve Here is a picture to show what I'm working with... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1170135383.jpg |
How concours do you want the sway bar and the rest of the undercarriage? A trip to the wire wheel, then down to bare metal followed by good quality rattle can black should last for awhile.

When I bought the car it was tired cosmetically, but the price was right. Not worried about concours at all. Rust was all I was really worried about.

I striped mine with aircraft striper (nasty stuff) and then powder coated mine. Used a satin gloss pc which is chipping from rocks hitting it. If I do it again I will use high gloss as it is tougher or do the Por15 and a spray can top coat before the por is dry. Bonds the paint to the por. JMHO

I bead blasted mine and powder coated with high gloss black. Everything that was black from the factory gets the blasting and powder coating before it is put back on. No worry in the future!
