should I get fuchs 8 or 9 for rear??

I really want to fill out the rear so I'm moving the 7's to the front.
I can get a brand new set of Fuchs 16x8 or 16x9 for the same price for whatever reason.
Which should I get?
My car is lowered to 1/2 inch below euro height.
Do I need to worry about clearance inner or outer with a 9?

at same price i would go for 16x9. No problems with clearence no mods needed. My car with 7x16 front and 9x16 in the back.

Really nice looking ride...just love a well maintained red 911.

At the same price...go with 16x9 for sure.

I voted 9's
For the same price I wouldn't hesitate to go with the bigger wheels but I like the look of really wide tires.
Bill Verburg or Grady Clay (I can't remember which) has a chart on the board that shows quite a few different wheel tire combos that should answer your clearance questions.
Hope this helps.

Hey Ed how are you getting on with the mat/flat black paint?

I'm really tempted to do the same but a few things worry me:

Will I regret it!
Does it look crap when wet?
Do you get greasy finger prints?
Does it look grubby sometimes and attract dirt more?
Do you polish/wax it to protect the paint?
Do you miss having nice shiny paint to wax?

....other than that, whats the up-sides?

Dutchie 02-01-2007 08:30 AM

Does it look crap when wet? yes

Do you get greasy finger prints? yes

Does it look grubby sometimes and attract dirt more? yes

Do you polish/wax it to protect the paint? no

Do you miss having nice shiny paint to wax? no

Upsides it looks crap anyway so need to wash the car just drive it :D

Will I regret it ? hope not ;)

sorry for the offtopic bit svb.

TeeHee - I asked for that.

I kinda like the "looks so crap dont have to worry aspect" so thanks for that insight.

Cheers & sorry for OT ;)

Cheers,

And even more nice in person. Here's a shot from Porschepalooza. To give you an idea how nice, I took a pic of Rouxroux's car and the Ruf 911s. Nothing else.

9 for sure. Fills out the fenders better than an 8 and you can put a wider tire on there. Only downside is the proper 245/45 tire for a 9 is not as readily avaliable in different tire brands as is the 225/50 for an 8

Nice car svb. Looks exactly like mine used to

rouxroux 02-01-2007 03:43 PM

Thanks for the comment. I'll try to update pictures soon, as I've got one of Thom's fiberglass reflector replacement panels and I think some 935 mirrors will be next. As you see Bob, the wife chose to drive "my" car (the red 911 to the right) on the "spirited run" that morning, but when we came back for the concours, she re-took possession of the white one.

Eights and Nines..........

With a lowered car with the 7x16 in the front the tire may catch the inner lip of the wheel well. A new set of Bilstein Sports will stop that problem. If you can get the 9x16s for the same money as the 8x16s, that is what I would do. I have the 8x16s on the rear of my SC and 7x16s on the front. I really like the way that it looks!

theclaw 02-01-2007 06:22 PM

I have 8s and 9s on my '84. Just roll the fenders.

algs911 02-01-2007 08:33 PM

I have almost the EXACT same car (color, et al.). I went with 8 inches at the rear. I'm also running a tad below Euro ride height. They fit perfect.

If you get a 9 inch rear wheel you will not be able to put a proper size tire on it AND have it clear your fender. I see folks all over the place with 9s, then the tire side wall isn't straight up and down because they have to put the same size tire as they would an 8. Tires were not designed to have a non-vertical side wall.

The 8s fill out the fenders VERY nice and the proper size tire fits perfect on the 8.

My 2cents.

P.S. Heck, 911s are so great looking I think wagon wheels would look good!
