Robert. I think the simplest thing to do would be to put a WTB in the for sale section. I bet there are thousands out there that people will want to sell you.

Did you drop it in the oil tank or did you acctually loose it. You can probablly fish it out of the oil tank if it is in there. Use a coat hanger to get it out.

Robert,
Hang in there. I can't believe nobody has come up with a lead on a dip stick for you. Almost every other person on the board has a '69.

Bob,

I just went out to my '69 911E and took some photos for you:

The length is 11 13/16" from loop to tip

There is a curve to it as shown in the following photos, along with three detents along the length:

Hope this helps! Good luck finding your replacement dipstick!

Regards,

Bob,

My apologies ... I only saw you want to fabricate one after my first reply. Here are some additional measurements so you can make one:

The "MAX" oil mark is 3 5/16" from the tip of the dipstick:

The distance from the end of the dipstick to the loop which limits the depth of insertion is 10 3/8":

The center of the first detent is 2 7/8" from the end of the dipstick:

The center of the second detent is 5 1/2" from the end of the dipstick:

The center of the third detent is 7 9/16" from the end of the dipstick:

The bow in the dipstick is 11/16" when laid flat with the loop pointing up away from the surface:

That should do it! Let me know if there are any other dimensions you need.

Oh, FYI the dipstick is 3/16" wide.

Good luck!

Regards,

Bob,

I have some early dipstick replicas. They are a bit pricey but look fantastic and are very similar to originals. Lazer cut stainless steel with all the proper bends and dim's.

May be a bit pricey, but for $40 it's not worth trying to fab your own!

Sounds good!

I think modifing the later style one might work. Just be sure that the overall length is accurate after you put all the little kinks in it. My understanding is that all the kinks along the dipstick (early one) are to prevent the oil from scraping off when pulling it out to check oil level. Since the important sections of the stick can't touch the walls of the tube the reading is vey accurate. Those Germans think of it all.
