Question about Option number.

Hi, ill try another question right away after getting a good answer from my last! :-)

The 911S targa US49 1976 that i just received, does not have any papers that tells me about any options numbers. I have chassisno: 9116210653, is ther any way to find out what options the car originally had?

I found a link for a lot of the option-codes here: http://porsche911.isuisse.com/porsche911/rennlist/rennlist20/rennlist_pictures20.htm so if I could only find my codes, ill be fine.

Welcome!

There should be a sticker under the front hood that has the option codes. If not, you can call Porsche Cars North America, give them the VIN and they will tell you what options it was built with when it left the factory. I would NOT order the Certificate of Authenticity that they might try and sell you.

I believe some of the major options would be printed on a label on the underside of your hood.

I was under the impression that one MUST buy the certificate in order to get the codes. Some also question accuracy...better than nothing though.

As always, quick and good answers, but as a green Porsche-owner, the answers raises another question from me. Is the VIN number the same as the chassis number: 9116210653?

Thanks again for the answers.

Thats right
911 = 911
6 = 1976
2 = 911 US 2.7 litre
1= Targa
0653 = sequential production number

also 165 hp if engine # begins 645 0001

Porsche didn't start putting the sticker under the hood until much later.

You have two choices; obtain a C of A from PCNA or start with a list of options for your year and compare it to your car. It's not that hard on a car of that vintage. Most didn't have very many options. It wasn't like the later cars, where just about anything was possible, for a buck.
