It's so variable. If you want a nice job on a 911 assuming no color change and the painter knows how to paint it without overspray on the rubber etc, start at $3000.

Juan,
Assuming that little/no dents are present, I would say $2500 and up. What you pay for is really the quality of the preparation, not really the paint or painting itself. Prep takes alot of time and time means labor hours and labor hours mean $$$. This is what drives the price up. Generally the more time spent on prep, as well as post paint finishing, the better it will look.
Nick.

In my opnion, a P car must be taen apart to obtain a good paint job. In painting, I truely believe you get what you pay for. I had my 78SC Targa paintied 1 and 1/2 years ago, fully taken apart (except motor), new rubber all around and partially put back together. Very little body work was needed. The cost, about $4,500. The end result is a mirror black P car. Well worth it.
PS also expect the job to take a little time. Mine took about 8 months from drive in to complete reassembly.

Can you describe what "taken apart" means specifically. Does all of the glass have to come out? Does the engine need to be removed so that the engine bay can be painted? Do the doors need to come off, and the door panels removed?

Assuming you're not changing the color, can a good paint job be obtained without a complete disassembly?

I agree. The prices really depend on the condition. I am getting estimates for my car and below is what I am finding out. Keep in mind that my car's body needs a lot of work (including some metal work), I am changing the color, and a full strip down is required.

a. $500 to $700 to dismantle body parts and strip old paint.
b. $60 to $70 per hour for expert body work (estimate to be given after a. is complete)
c. $3000 on up for the paint job (includes sanding/priming, clearcoat, and reassembly). Also assumes no major body work is needed.

I will be doing a. and the reassembly work in c. to keep my hands on the project and save a little money.

Good luck,
John

Disassembly for a paint job involves removing trim items and some rubber. It does not necessarily mean removing glass unless you are putting in new rubber anyway. For example, the rubber around the glass can be lifted and masked in such a way that the new paint goes under a little bit and it looks factory. The engine does not have to be removed often the engine area can be cleaned and sections resprayed with the engine lowered by an expert without having to tear it down too much. As you take things apart you also might notice some rust that you had no idea about like in the headlight buckets etc which should be patched properly.

Pull the doors, hood, engine cover, front fenders, and all the glass, bare metal plastic media blast the car. Paint with base coat clear coat paint and change color. Work done by a gentleman in this area who paints high end hot rod show cars. The painter put the doors, hood, engine cover and front fenders back on. $6000.00

Hello-I am new to this forum, but I have been restoring 911 Porsches for over 25 years.pbs911 is on target with his 4500. price.A 911 cannot be properly refinished without taking out the glass, removal of bumpers, and all exterior trim.when i look at someone elses paint job,one of the first areas i look is the vinyl cowl seal between the fender and windshield.the fender must be loose enough to get the seal out.this is one area that is often overlooked.Again, preperation is everything.A good job with minor body work and taking everything apart, with no color change should be between$5000. and 6500. Gata go- Rick
