Would you drive this? Someone did

As you can see, it's been somewhat secured for a reason.

Your typical "gold-plated" Porsche.

Could be confused with a piece of old farm machinery left in the elements for years to rot. Unbelievable that anyone would even attempt to drive something in that condition. Can you imagine the stress placed on that bunch of rotted crap if you had to perform an evasive maneuver?

And to think that someone proudly calls that a 'repair'.

Too bad...

I've used muffler clamps to pull the front wheel hub cover off, to seperate a synchro hub from it's gear and of course to secure a muffler. With this latest idea it's almost time to write a book... "101 Uses for a Muffler Clamp"

That looks like my first car. A 72 240Z. I was young and stupid when I bought it (now I'm just old and stupid ). I took it to a body shop to see if they could fix some of the rust. The guy looked under the car and pointed out the street sign that had been welded in. I sold it to a junk yard. That was an expensive lesson.

In the late '80's, I bought a 912 for cheap with a rusted out front pan. The PO told me, don't drive it over 50 mph on the way home, the front end could come off. It was nowhere close to being that bad.....

We've had two stellar examples of cars that should not be on the road come into the shop

Car #1 was a swb 912 that the proud owner had left parked outside for approx 5 years after the battery died and he could not get into the trunk. "no problem- tow it in and lets check it out" . The car shows up, paint falling off in sheets from the surface rust. Well, for giggles we put it up on the rack to check the rest of this car. We easily released the stuck trunk latch by reaching through the gaping hole in front of the gas tank from the underside. We politely informed proud owner to tow it to a junk yard or part it out himself

Car #2 was a "miami vice" special: "935 Slant Nose Testarossa" kit on a sad 75 targa. A couple of local guys (one of who posts his extreme creations on e bay currently) were in the business of buying cheap, fixing cheap, and selling high. They wanted an evaluation. Ok- we put the car on the rack and while raising the car up, the targa top fell off into the car, the rear fiberglass quarters cracked at all the bondo seams, and the doors opened !!! It was hilariously funny except for the fact that someone thought this car was a great "ride"
We had that one towed out too

It wasn't that bad but...... While looking for a 911 a went to check out a car, a nice looking ROW SC Targ. It looked great, paint was nice, interior was well kept. I opened up the hood and inside was a brand new front pan, still in the plastic wrap. Stuck my head under the front of the car, both the torsion bar mounts were rusted through. Quickly got my head out from under the car!
Told the owner thanks, and dont drive that thing far, and left.

Jay

I dunno, Jay. For the cost of those two muffler clamps you could have had a fine automobile!

I'm curious, though. Just what exactly do you clamp the torsion bars to? The rusty sheet metal above?
