Pop out window install
I’ve got a 76 912e, and installing pop-outs. They came yesterday, but the seller lied.
He said they were the aluminum style, but they are the brass style, and they’re pitted. If you look at the tabs, they look very bent, are they supposed to be this bent? Will I have any figment issues with the brass style on my 76? Will the chrome brass look different than the polished aluminum trim that’s on the rest of the car? Yes, the mounts are bent on purpose. you'd be hard pressed to straighten them, they're hardened.
To take apart, use those screws. CAREFULLY. They go through the frame into steel pieces which might be completely rusted now. Use an impact tool to crack them loose. Mine were ugly, but with some careful thread chasing they hold together. Oh, that rubber inside the frame will disintegrate when you open things up, better buy replacements NOW.

What Mike said. I would always use something like Kroil on the screws and let it soak in for a while. Use judgement when using the impact tool. but it's the way to go.

Let me be clearer. I said impact TOOL, which might not be a powered driver. I think I used my handheld impact screwdriver (the kind you hit with a hammer).
The screws are tiny and barely catch any threads, they will either crack loose easily, break, or take the threads out with them. Have fun! ![]()

Got the screws out no problem, just tapping on the screwdriver with a mallet.
Glass is a pain though, going to try to dissolve the rubber with acetone. Still concerned that these early brass frames won’t fit my 76 correctly, as one other thread somewhere said the early windows won’t fit right. Yeah, I should have been clearer I was referring to the impact tool you tap w/ a hammer. I'm under the impression the early pop outs fit later cars. If push comes to shove, I'm sure you can sell the brass frames & just buy the aluminum ones. Come to think of it, I'm sure I have some in storage.

Oh Crap, is this the right size???
Are the older pop-outs longer than the later ones. My car is a 76 with fixed windows, and these popouts are from an older 911. Are all the popouts longer like this? ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

you can compare the size of the popout to the stationary glass, two totally different sizes. plus you still need to install the rubber exterior seal and once that's on it takes up that space.

Windows are apart.
To get the little screws out, soak them in some WD40, use a sharp screwdriver, and keep taping in the screwdriver until they come loose. Removing the rubber is a *****. What I found works is let them soak in paint stripper, and I mean let them soak a while, several hours at least. Keep poking at the rubber seal with a nylon poker, and keep the stripper moving around with an acid brush. Eventually the rubber will soften so you can squeeze a razor blade in there and cut it away. The paint stripper won’t hurt the glass or frames. Let the paint stripper do the hard work. ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Window latches arrived from Einmalig today. The problem was they were absolute trash. One was powder coated black, and the other one had an 1/8” thick layer of fresh spray paint. The sellers just spray painted them and shoved them in a bag. On top of that, they changed me $100 a piece for them.
This is what they look like after soaking in paint stripper, cleaned disassembled, and partially sanded by me. Now I’m going to take them up and get these re-chromed also. I’m SO MAD at the junk parts sellers and their outrageous prices. See the black paint on the bag? That’s from Einmalig spray painting them and shoving them straight in the bag.
