993 trailer hitch and wiring
Anybody had experience putting a trailer hitch on their 993/carerra? I know there are few out there but are any partially removable when not being used (not visable)? Good kits or diaghrams for the wiring splice?
Thanks, Adam

Whoops!
I'd say offhand
you've angered the god-of-gleam with your heresy, Tow car indeed, wash your mouth out with Mothers or similar aftermarket product ![]() ![]() ![]()

Ha!
Not the least of it, in fact I'm using to work and back this week, as I lost use of it in the shop over last summer I HAVE seen pictures though of them used as tow cars although they always look rather strange & can smell that clutch frying in traffic never mind the pointing and laughing. Mind you I've used mine to cart cement and all my carpentry tools on occasion what are you intending to hook up

It woudl be to tow a light racigng Kart to the track.. The Kart weighs about 150lbs. Trailer about the same.
Don't have a 993 yet but considering it.

there are a few threads on that.
911 as a tow vehicle?? I pulled a small trailer with my 86 to the track for 2 seasons. Worked great. EDIT: on the wiring. you will need a 5 to 4 wire converter harness. The brake and tail lights are on different circuits and without the 5 to 4, you will either have no brake or no tail light. Your trailer shop should have the correct converter.

Now were talking. Love it Tony!
I found this at 993faq.com. Didn't see the product on the Evolution motorsports page. So I guess I'm looking for peoples experiences. As sacreligious as they are. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< There are several options for attaching a trailer hitch to your 993. a) Evolution Motorsports has one specifically designed for the 993. b) Go to www.hitch-web.com and lookup a hitch for your car. A company calle Daalen makes one. This is the one I have. c) Have a race/machine shop custom fabricate a hitch for you. If you get the one from Daleen, it might scratch up the rear bumper. A solution is to glue a thin sheet of urathane behind the hitch so the metal does touch the bumper. An alternative would be to add some thick spacers to move the hitch away from the body.

Ask fellow Pelican Charles Kieffner. (sp)? He'll tell you everything you need to know about trailers and Porsches.
I think U-haul makes a special kit. Regards,
