Shiny black 911's
For those of you out there with black Porshes, how do you get them so that the buffing marks from the last wax job do not show??? I've been using Zymol as well as Griots Garage waxes, spraying water over the just buffed areas and rebuffing "forever" getting all that waxy film to disapear... Until I pull out of the garage into the sunshine and they seem to all reappear!!
Car should not have any wax build up, only 3 coats since polishing compound. Any sugestions/tips to get me out of this masochist situation? Thanks, Jean-Paul |

I've found that meguire's "detail in a bottle" (can't remember the real name) does a decent job at this task.. simply sray on and wipe..

Have you ever heard of a commercial product avilable at paint stores called 3M Polish 'N Glaze (Blue) ... it can be used for hand or machine buffing.

I own a detail shop for very high line cars and I also have three black cars. Here is what we do: Strip all of the old wax - a through wash with high pressure should do this just fine. I then use one coat of THE WAX SHOP's product called SAFE CUT. It is merely a cleaner wax that does a great job of getting dirt the wash did not. Now use your ZYMOL - a light coat looks and works the best. Final step is easiest - again use THE WAX SHOPS's product called SUPER GLAZE. It is a very thin (almost watery) glaze that fills in and removes swirls, leaving your car with a very cool WET look. Once the above is done, we will maintain the car in the future with a non-wax removing hand wash (using special soap) and then again using the SUPER GLAZE. It maintains the protection, adds that WET shine, and removes any chance of water spots. This is a proven method and I hope it helps you in your quest for BLACK BEAUTY! |

Check out "carcareonline.com". This was recommended to me last week. It seems the key is how the wax, glaze or wiping of the car is made. The info I gained is this: never apply a wax or glaze to black paint in a circular motion; always apply wax or glaze in a linear motion, the same direction as the air flow.
I applied 3M Glaze and wax this weekend using this approach. Never have I had a better shine. And no swirl marks. I always had them before. I guess swirl marks can be seen at 90 degree angles, so when you apply wax or glaze, or even wipe the paint surface in a circular motion, the marks are visible from all angles. The web site is also full of other useful tips. Check it out. |

with Black paint you can use a special product called ebony that is just for black paint and will remove all swirl marks it leaves a concours finish but be careful though its made for the pros and you can take off too much paint
I agree also about the 3M glaze also followed up with Meguires pro carnuba wax left my car outstanding |

I use the Meguiar's quick detail spray. It's pretty good stuff for in between waxes. It doesn't get rid of any swirl marks, but it certainly helps make the car look freshly waxed.
Try this site as well: Autopia. Good site with tips and products. They might be biased, but there's some good stuff there. ------------------ Mark Szabo 1986 911 Targa 3.2 |

You guys should look into Joey Zainos products. Kind of home grown stuff. He used to be a show car painter and never found good wax products for the dark cars he did. So, he got up with some chemists and made his own. I used it on my black T/A and the stuff is amazing. He is real big in the F-body world. It's pricey but I felt it worked as claimed. Other than that I agree with the super glaze. That stuff werks well too.

Going way back to the original Blue Coral days and most instuctions that I have read indicate doing small patches at a time and using back and forth stokes instead of circular motions. Is there any truth to this with modern products? I still would not use machines on my paint!

i have 2 black cars and one dark blue one. both my black 944 and my black Scirocco 16V get a nice spray of the Meguiars Quick Detail spray when they need a touch up.
i found that the quick detail spray keeps the wax job looking very fresh. even the 16 year old Montego Black 944 paint job looks better than a lot of other cars i see that are newer, but the owner does not take care of the paint. our 1987 VW enjoys the same treatment, and many non car buffs are amazed at how new the car looks after i use the Meguairs quick detail spray. good luck! obin [This message has been edited by Obin Robinson (edited 11-28-2000).] |
